AI for All: Mukesh Ambani unveils Reliance Intelligence as India’s next big AI powerhouse at RIL AGM

At the annual general meeting of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled Reliance Intelligence, a new wholly owned subsidiary designed to build large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and make AI accessible “for everyone, everywhere.”

“A decade ago, digital services became a new growth engine for Reliance. Now, the opportunity before us with AI is just as large, if not larger,” Ambani said. “Jio promised and delivered digital everywhere and for every Indian. Similarly, Reliance Intelligence promises to deliver AI everywhere for every Indian.”

The initiative will see Reliance set up gigawatt-scale, AI-ready data centres powered by green energy, engineered for both training and inference at a national scale. Work on the first facilities in Jamnagar has already begun, with phased rollouts aligned to India’s growing digital needs.

Ambani outlined four core missions for Reliance Intelligence: hosting India’s next-generation AI infrastructure, forging global partnerships, delivering AI services across key sectors such as education, healthcare and agriculture, and nurturing domestic AI talent. He stressed that the platform will provide reliable, affordable AI solutions not just for enterprises, but also for consumers and small businesses.

Reliance Intelligence will also serve as a hub for researchers, engineers, designers and product builders, blending research with engineering rigour to convert “ideas into innovations and applications, providing solutions to the world,” Ambani said.

Why it matters
Reliance’s scale, capital and ecosystem—from telecom and retail to cloud and data services—could position India as a serious contender in the global AI race dominated by the US and China. With access to vast volumes of Indian-language data and the infrastructure to process it domestically, Reliance has the potential to build AI models tailored to India’s unique needs, while creating a credible third hub of innovation on the global stage.
